Legislation to promote clean energy development.
In Europe, there are now particle emission quotas imposed on companies. Indeed, in 2005 a single market was established to regulate emissions from industry and energy production in Europe, called the European Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System (ETS). Since the program was launched, CO2 and N20 emissions have been reduced by 21%. In 2021, we are entering the fourth and final phase of the program, which imposes lower quotas than in previous phases. The 2030 target is to reduce these emissions by an additional 2.2% each year. By 2024, diesel vehicles will no longer be able to operate in Paris.
These laws require companies to change their habits, especially in the transport sector. Indeed, an effective way to limit particles emissions is to initiate a fleet energy transition. The goal is to replace gasoline or diesel with a more environmentally neutral fuel.
Among "greener” alternatives to diesel is Natural Gas for Vehicles (NGV).
Tankyou already converted to NGV (in 2016, 78% of MBOs in the city of Paris are NGV vehicles).
NGV used as a fuel reduces up to 95% fine particles emissions and 50% NOx emissions compared to a similar diesel vehicle. Moreover, in terms of CO2 emissions, reduction is from 15 to 80%, if NGV is produced from organic waste (bio methane).
Lack of infrastructure, a NGV development brake.
Today, we find only 23 public NGV stations in Ile-de-France compared to more than 1100 petrol stations. Currently 17 new NGV stations are in the project phase for opening in the coming years.
In addition, these NGV stations require frequent maintenance operations, leading to recurring downtime. Finally, NGV is a fuel whose characteristics are still poorly controlled by operators, which can lead to fuel failures in NGV vehicles during the first months of use.
As a result, companies are faced with new constraints on their environmental impact despite a delay in infrastructure. These are not yet developed enough to allow a serene energy transition. This is why TANKYOU is committed to support fleet managers in various sectors on their new energies sources transition, including NGV.
